From the end of June until the first week of August the daily trip (11/2 hr sail each way) is made to Seal Island aboard the “Day’s Catch”  to see the colorful and comical puffin. (900 nesting pairs). (info@seawatchtours.com, 1-877-662-8552 www.seawatchtours.com). The bird blinds, the tern’s dive bombing and visiting the seal colony are all highlights on this memorable day.

July, August and September are the peak whale watching months. You will see humpbacks, finbacks, minkes and into August and September the endangered right whale.  Two whale boats service the Island. Whales-N-Sails (info@whales-n-sails.com, 1-888-994-4044,  www.4whales.com) and Seawatch Tours. Sightings are generally close up. A tail off in the distance is not considered a sighting.

The Whale Research Station and the GM museum  are very informative and interesting. There are also numerous hiking trails which may take you along cliffs, through heaths, bogs, heavily wooded areas or even to a fresh water pond. There is a great Grand Manan trail book available to give you your choice of where you want to go, how long it will take you and the degree of difficulty of the trail. This book along with the Grand Manan bird book can be purchased at the museum and several Island stores for under $8.00.

The tourist information center is located  at #130 in North Head on the right after you disembark from the ferry. (1.3km) Visit our web site for more information on Grand Manan, things to see and do as well as the fisheries and history.  (www.grandmanannb.com1-888-525-1655 or 1-506-662-3442)
